Focus on Margarita Bali | 2006
http://www.margaritabali.com/
A deep immersion into Margarita Bali’s filmic and aesthetic universe was a debt that vernacular videodance had until now. Bali is an artist who deeply commits in all her projects, as well as the genres she tackles, in which she undertakes a studious and tireless search.

Creative, hard worker, almost innocent in her wish to discover, Bali surprises every time. When we got used to her prolific videodance production, she attacked through her multi-awarded installations (LIMBO/MAMBA, Beca Antorchas, Doris Duke Foundation/Arts International, Fundación Onassis, Gughenheim). When her name became habitual in digital art media, a mega project appeared: Pizzurno Pixelado. She flooded the Palacio Pizzurno with images, sounds and dance during a Festival de Teatro 2005 cool night, and brought her the “Germaine Derbecq” award to the Year Experience from the AACA (Argentine Art Critics Association).

When we felt sad because of the experience fleetingness, she reformatted it in the Pizzurno Revisitado installation, premiered in December 2005 at the Digital Cultures Lab-Radiator Festival For New Technology Art, in Nottingham, England, UK. When we felt delighted for it, she gave us a new videodance piece: Paredes de aquel Buenos Aires (Wall of that Buenos Aires), which we proudly present the world premiere at the opening of the festival.

Now we only wish you to enjoy this Bali bathe and to thank Margarita for being so persistent and consistant with that line she blew out at the early days of the Argentine videodance: “I watched your video! It means it’s possible!”

PIZZURNO REVISITADO (Installation)

PAREDES DE AQUEL BUENOS AIRES
by Margarita Bali (World premiere)
Paredes de aquel Buenos Aires
The piece builds above real Buenos Aires walls, left visible after a demolition, acting like floating vertical tapestries, very crude images to imagine what was lived there. The passer-by, the camera and the spectator are voyeurs of that suggested intimacy.

Music and sound composition: Gabriel Gendin and Narcotango fragments, Digitalcoya, Rosita Quiroga, Luis Borda, Pablo Mainetti, Dane Rudhyar, Rosendo Mendizabal and Jorge Sad.
Performers: Cristina Cortés, Julio Escudero, Ana Deutsch, Soledad Gutierrez, Karina Livingston, Nora Malimovka, Analía Martorello, Edgardo Mercado, Sandro Nunziatta, Loreley Postolovsky, Marianela Skrie, Karina Roldan and Lucas Roldan.
Camera and lights: Eduardo Camauer Productions
Choreography: Dancers and Margarita Bali
This video has a grant by PRODANZA, independent dance office of the Ministry of Culture of Buenos Aires City.
